The Journal of International Women’s Studies is an online, open-access, peer-reviewed feminist journal that provides a forum for scholars, activists, and students to explore the relationships among theories of gender and sexuality and various forms of organizing and critical practice.

Dear JIWS authors: Although we had hoped to open our portal for new submissions in June, we have decided to delay the opening until July or August. We received nearly 100 submissions earlier this year and need to prioritize giving these submitted articles a peer review process. We are also pleased to share that the JIWS has recently been elevated to a Q2 rating. This is good news for authors since it means that your published work is being cited more often, due to the quality of your work. At the same time, to sustain that rating, we must make a few changes to our submission rates. At its core the JIWS adopts the twin ethics of a) fostering equity by opening up publishing opportunities to scholars in the Global South, and b) implementing feminist care and mentorship in our review and publication process. As a result, our acceptance rates have previously been higher than some other journals, in part because we work with authors through many rounds of reviews. In seeking to sustain these ethical obligations, we also must balance a rise in submissions and the desire to sustain our Q2 status. While some higher rates of rejection are inevitable for future submissions, we also promise to maintain our core principles. Thank you for your patience and continued interest in the Journal of International Women's Studies. This September 2025, we celebrate 25 years of our journal. Please stay tuned for details here about our online international conference which will be held on November 5-6, 2025!
